Vastu Shastra provides specific guidelines for the arrangement of various areas within a residence, including the living room, bedroom, kitchen, children’s room, and even the bathroom and toilet. An improperly situated bathroom can lead to issues such as financial loss, health deterioration, and other complications within the household. To prevent such adverse outcomes, it is advisable to adhere to fundamental principles regarding the orientation of the toilet seat in accordance with Vastu.
Vastu Recommendations for the Orientation of the Toilet Seat:
- Location of the Bathroom: It is recommended that the bathroom be positioned in the northwest or northern section of the house, as these areas are associated with the expulsion of waste. This placement facilitates the elimination of negative energies and fosters the influx of positive energies within the home.
- Orientation of the Toilet Seat: The orientation of the toilet seat is a critical consideration. It should be positioned such that the individual using it faces either the north or south direction of the house. This alignment is believed to promote the overall health and well-being of family members.
- Directions to Avoid: The eastern and north-eastern corners of the house are associated with religious and spiritual matters. Therefore, it is advisable to refrain from placing the toilet seat in these areas, as doing so may adversely impact the health of family members and the prosperity of the household.
- Considerations for Women’s Health: Historically, bathrooms for women were separate from those for men. Vastu Shastra advises against positioning women’s toilets in the south-west, south-east, or overall southern direction of the house, as these areas are considered detrimental to women’s health.
- Inclusion of a Window: It is beneficial for the toilet seat to face the north direction, and the installation of a window directly above it is recommended to enhance ventilation and light.
- Elevation of the Toilet Seat: Ideally, the bathroom should be slightly elevated above the surrounding floor level. If this poses design challenges, consider raising the toilet seat by incorporating an additional step to comply with Vastu principles.
- Proper Direction for Waste Disposal: As previously mentioned, the western side of the house is designated for waste disposal. Consequently, the drainage system for the bathroom, including the toilet and wash basin, should be oriented towards the west. All drainage pipes within the residence should also align with this direction.
By adhering to these guidelines, one can create a harmonious living environment that aligns with the principles of Vastu Shastra.
