The built-in slideshow is next-level.
1.Paint your bed
Homeowner Mandy Reeves had a four-poster bed for years before her son was born, but she always thought it would fit in a small room. She painted the frame lime green, which contrasted beautifully with the white walls and pretty artwork.
2.Summer Camp in the Straits
The attic of this colorful and beautifully organized Lake Michigan home owned by fashionista and store owner Abby Hoppen is big enough for two twin beds, and some Camp stools were purchased at a thrift store. The sofa bed was replaced by an old trunk and suitcase. (Tip: Make sure the pile is at least 2 feet high and within arm’s reach.)
3.Paint on a checkered floor
In this pretty girl’s bedroom, designer Alison Kandler used a combination of green paint and a turquoise floor. (However, garage paint dries faster than regular paint, which makes for an incredibly messy DIY project. Peachy pink walls, a sunny yellow bed, a cobalt fan-like lamp, and a coral chair complete the naturally sunny combination.
4.Shot
In a bedroom in Oregon, designer Caitlin Wilson’s playful equestrian-themed wallpaper paired with pretty animal prints creates a playful atmosphere. Since the space has 12-foot ceilings, her childlike husband came up with a triple bunk bed arrangement. “I said no, and he said no,” Caitlin said, encouraging the guards to stay safe.
5.Hang an old sign
A restored railroad crossing sits above an old iron bed in Lauren Crouch’s beautiful Georgia farmhouse, a reminder of her hometown’s history as a railroad town. Antique barn doors and rustic cedar fence panels in the attic (carefully preserved from the family’s previous home) also transform the space from a boys’ room to a place where the boys hang out.
6.Add a dollhouse-like table
When your dad is American ragpicker Mike Wolfe, you can count on your shelves to be filled with found trinkets and treasures. (Check out the sale on a collection of tiny cowboy boots!)6.66
7.Create a custom mural
To make their son’s small room feel more spacious, Christine and Gabriel Bridger of Company and Home commissioned a beautiful custom piece inspired by a poster of Lake Macatawa in Michigan, where he spent summers as a child.
8.Add whimsy with wallpaper
In New York’s West Village, large floral arrangements add a graphic touch to a bedspread and plaid blanket from Great English Outdoors in Wales. Inspired by designer friend Rita Konig, the homeowners used a vintage two-story elevator to store books.
9.Tell me something weird.
Designer Bailey McCarthy showed off her love of pink and green by painting the walls of her daughter’s bedroom bright pink, while she decorated her country bed with green leaves. The antique quilt looks surprisingly modern when paired with a heart-shaped bed from the Biscuit Home collection. Vintage pieces, such as a Murano glass tulip wall lamp and a silk bazaar flag hanging above the bed, add character to the bedroom.
10.See your address.
It’s fitting that at least one room in this Maine home features a lobster special. In this case, it’s a gorgeous wallpaper designed by Maine resident Sara Fitz. The red tones provide a playful contrast to the vintage bed that was homeowner Tiffany Mizzell’s childhood bedroom. Light blue sheets and a quilt with awning stripes highlight the bold primary colors.
11.Spring silhouettes
Whether retro or trendy, children’s silhouettes will bring a youthful energy to the space. The warm wood of the two beds contrasts beautifully with the rich and sophisticated moss green, while antique arrowhead candles and dog ornaments create a sense of unity.
