Enhance your kitchen with these designer-endorsed hues.
At House Beautiful, we adhere to the principle that ‘two is a coincidence, three is a trend.’ This adage is particularly relevant when discussing the paint colors selected for kitchen cabinets and walls. While warm whites and classic neutrals will always remain essential in kitchen design, this year has witnessed an unprecedented rise in colorful kitchens. It appears that homeowners are increasingly prioritizing personal expression over strict resale value considerations, particularly in the more functional areas of their homes. However, we recognize that opting for a bold sunshine yellow or a vibrant green may not appeal to everyone. Therefore, we consulted leading interior designers to uncover the kitchen paint color trends that their clients are currently requesting.
Below, we present five kitchen paint color trends that designers anticipate will be prevalent in 2025. Notably, the sage green trend that emerged in 2021 continues to thrive, albeit in a more sophisticated form. Whether you are undertaking a renovation or simply seeking a refresh, we invite you to explore these significant sources of kitchen inspiration.
Bold Yellow
“Kitchens, traditionally the least colorful spaces in a home, are beginning to embrace the bold, vintage color palette reminiscent of the 1970s, which is gaining traction in textiles and furniture. While kitchen wall colors typically remain neutral, we are observing vibrant splashes of color emerging in cabinetry. Homeowners are increasingly willing to take risks in their kitchens, particularly with custom cabinetry, which represents a significant investment.”
Natural Wood Tones
“I am particularly pleased to see a shift away from bright white walls and neutral furniture and fabrics, with a growing inclination towards moody and rich colors. The use of wood panels featuring natural graining in millwork, cabinetry, and furniture is also on the rise. I anticipate that in 2025, we will witness an even greater prevalence of color-stained wood, which will continue to gain popularity.”
Saturated Tones Inspired by Nature
“We are observing a desire among clients for richer tones in the kitchen, moving away from the traditional white. Recently, we completed a kitchen renovation that we are particularly fond of, featuring cabinets painted in Farrow and Ball Beverly, a mid-green. This was complemented by a walnut butcher block countertop on the island, warm neutral stone on the perimeter, and cream walls.” —Liz Williams, Liz Williams Interiors
Sophisticated Blues
“Muted blues, which evoke a sense of tranquility and understated elegance, are becoming increasingly popular. When paired with classic materials such as marble and bold black accents, these tones create a harmonious balance between modernity and timeless refinement, reflecting the contemporary preference for cozy, luxurious spaces.” —Elizabeth Mollen, Stone Textile Studio
Olive Green
“The era of stark white kitchens has come to an end. Rich hues, ranging from sage to olive greens, along with various wood tones, have made a significant impact on kitchen design. We are witnessing a greater infusion of personal expression through paint, a trend that we wholeheartedly support!” —Janelle B. Photopoulos, Blakely Interior Design
Moody Monochromes
“Deep, saturated tones such as forest green, midnight blue, aubergine, and rich blacks are expected to dominate in 2025. At SWD, we layer textures within these palettes to create intimate, reflective spaces. This trend encourages personal expression through color and offers an alternative to the airy, neutral rooms of previous years.”
